Three questions for a forecast

Our interpretation: ask what location and time the forecast covers, what range of outcomes it shows, and what would change your plan. These are different questions. A wider range need not be a reason to ignore a forecast; it may be the information you needed to prepare an alternative.

The measurements still matter

The National Weather Service emphasizes the observations used to initialize models, including satellite, aircraft and weather-balloon data. A forecast starts with evidence about the atmosphere. Reading the model’s output is only one part of understanding where a prediction comes from. [2]
